Woodward Junction

Detroit, MI

Full block development & urban design

Woodward Junction is a proposed mixed-use development project in downtown Detroit, providing office, housing, retail, a rooftop school & playground, and an Arts Center in a park. The focus of the design is at the pedestrian level, where bold gestures are concentrated along with strategies to enhance the pedestrian experience.

The sculptural Arts Center creates unusual and dynamic forms & spaces with the use of a singular shape - the cylinder. The building components interact spatially with the park to produce ever-changing relationships between user, park, and structure. These are offset by the quieter natures of the office, retail and housing structures, creating rich contrasts in the urban setting.
