Hood Canal Residence

Tahuya, WA

2,700sf residence

The walls of a house create the interior spaces, of course, but they also give definition to the exterior areas as well. Here, particular attention is given to creating a series of outdoor spaces with different characteristics & views - to be traversed before one even enters the home.

Located in a rural setting, the clients' love of nature inspired this residence to be designed as three separate buildings - for ease of phasing the construction, and to make the gardens as an integral part of the day-to-day rituals.

A continuous ribbon of weathered steel ties the structures of charred wood finish together, while framing views that direct guests through the site.

Selected for the 2019 Seattle Architecture Foundation Model Exhibit
